  • The course should be available at all times from any computer.
  • The distance learning education provider grading should be prompt and grades should be generated quickly.

    Free Distance Education

Is it really possible to optain online courses for free? Yes, under certain circumstances. However, these are not courses that lead to a degree. A couple areas in which free courses are available are:
  • Internet independent courses, such as screenwriting or e-commerce, that are offered by various organizations including Barnes and Noble University.
  • University open courses, that are designed by universities, mostly for regular in-the-classroom type course, that are made available to the public. MIT is one of several universities that does this.

Credit for Life Experience Accredited Distance Learning Degrees

Many individuals have worked for years in a particular industry and know it inside and out, but have never taken any courses relating to what they do. Other individuals have taken numerous seminars, yet have never gotten any educational credit for them. Still others have various skills that would normally be taught in a college or university but they learned on their own. These skills include such things as speaking a foreign language, playing a musical instrument and writing music, running a small business, writting computer programs, and more.
  • However, many of these people never had the time, the funds, or opportunity to get a college or university degree. Fortunately, there is a way to put all that life experience to work and get credit for it. There are many colleges that offer college and university degree credit for life experience. Some of them are accredited, and by accredited, that means accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies recognized by the United States government.
  • The accredited colleges and universities that offer credit for life experience will generally not offer the entire course work based on life experience but they will offer partial credit. By using your life experience credit for one or more courses, you can save time and money in order to get your college or university degree; and these aren't just bachelor's degrees, you can even get a Masters degree from an accredited university.
  • Find it hard to believe? Here is just one example. Central Michigan University is an accredited STATE university based in Mt. Pleasant Michigan. They offer credit for life experience on a portion of their coursework for their Master of Science ( MS ) in Administration degree. Other examples of accredited colleges that allow credit for life experience are Empire State College in New York for their Masters in Business Administration ( MBA ), Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center in California for their Masters of Arts ( MA ) in Human Science, Masters of Arts ( MA ) in Psychology, Ph.D. in Human Science and Ph.D. in Psychology, Goddard College in Vermont for their MA in Psychology and Counseling and Master of Fine Arts ( MFA ) in Creative Writing , Vermont College of Norwich University in Vermont for their Masters of Arts (MA) degrees, and The Fielding Institute in California for their Ph.D. in Human Development.
  • These are just a few of the many ACCREDITED colleges and universities that give course credit for life experiences. Information on these and more institutions are available from some of the books listed below.
